Festival of Arts lineup

The Festival of Arts’ Thursday Art Talk series features mixed-media artists Carolyn Machado and Mia Moore from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Both exhibitors, who have shown their work at the Festival since the early ‘90s, will share insight about the value of inspiration in their creative processes. Machado and Moore’s collaborative design for the Festival of Arts Runway Fashion Show will be part of the event’s lineup along with a conversation about materials and aesthetics.

Audience members will also have a chance to create their own work.

The Festival’s Art of Cooking program will spotlight Chef Amar Santana of Broadway, Laguna Beach between 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Prior to opening his flagship restaurant, Santana was the sous chef at Aureole in New York and executive chef for Charlie Palmer at Bloomingdale’s South Coast Plaza. This weekend, he will demonstrate recipes, while guests will also have the chance to taste his concoctions.

Admission is free with tickets to the Festival.

The Festival of Arts is hosting three exhibits to celebrate the Pageant of the Masters’ 80th anniversary.

The first is housed at the Festival grounds, the second at the Festival’s satellite gallery foaSOUTH at 1006 S. Coast Highway, and the third at the Wells Fargo building at 260 Ocean Ave. Each display highlights Pageant memorabilia.

“The goal of these exhibits is to provide a bit of historical context for the Pageant’s longevity and popularity over the last eight decades,” exhibit curator Pat Sparkuhl wrote in a release. “Throughout its history and even today, the Pageant continues to find new ways to keep the show fresh and innovative.”

The Pageant exhibit on the Festival grounds is free with Festival admission until Aug. 31. The foaSOUTH and Wells Fargo exhibits last until Sept. 30.

Ceramic and mixed-media workshops, an “art quest,” marionette shows and live music will be part of the Festival of Arts Family Art Day from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 3.

“We love to expose people to the arts, especially children,” director of special events Susan Davis said in a release. “It’s the perfect event to stimulate conversation and promote the excitement of the total art experience.”

Family Art Day is free with Festival Admission, and children 12 and under receive free admission all summer long.
