The Festival of Arts satellite gallery foaSOUTH, at 1006 South Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach, presents the art of printmaker Vinita Voogd until April 11.

The display features her new works juxtaposed with her contributions to the festival’s permanent art collection. An artist’s reception will be hosted from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 6 during First Thursdays Art Walk in Laguna Beach.

“Vinita’s involvement with a variety of printmaking processes has allowed her to realize a deeper understanding and significance to her artwork,” exhibit curator Pat Sparkuhl said in a news release. “This exhibit illustrates her quest in developing and creating a unique look that is all her own.”

Born and raised in New Delhi, Voogd studied fine art at the College of Art, University of Delhi, and printmaking at UC Irvine. Having created original prints since 1982, she became a festival exhibitor more than a decade ago.

Voogd’s works are in private and corporate collections worldwide and have been shown at venues including the Laguna Art Museum. An avid traveler who collects artifacts and handmade paper, she employs a wide range of materials and constructs her prints by combing collages and graphics.

“By producing prints using everyday mundane materials, I am placing my work in an entirely new context, with the goal of challenging and changing the viewer’s perceptions,” Voogd wrote in a news release. “In an age of extremes, wealth and poverty, peace and discord, technology and ecology, my art strives for a universal landscape of harmony, blending cultural decorative motifs, color, texture and pattern.”

The Laguna Beach Film Society presents a screening of “Short Term 12” at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive.

The 2013 release, written and directed by Destin Cretton, is a drama told from the perspective of Grace, who supervises a foster care facility for at-risk teens.

For nonmembers of the society, tickets to the screenings cost $10 at the door ($5 for students). The cost is $20 if a 6 p.m. pre-screening reception at the museum is included. Members are admitted free.
