Woman arrested on suspicion of DUI hit-and-run
Laguna Beach police arrested an Aliso Viejo woman on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run after she allegedly struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk late Friday.
Sherry Lynn Vitalone, 42, was taken into custody after the collision at 11:17 p.m. at Brooks Street and South Coast Highway, according to police.
The pedestrian, a 50-year-old Laguna Niguel woman, had scrapes and bruises and complained of hip pain, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email. Police found a side mirror from a car at the scene.
Police said Vitalone fled the scene in a Toyota Camry. An officer who was monitoring Laguna Canyon Road saw the Camry driving at a high rate of speed and stopped the car, noticing it was missing a side mirror, Callus said.
