Body brought ashore on Balboa Peninsula; possible drowning being investigated

Authorities are investigating a possible drowning after a body was pulled from the ocean in Newport Beach early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the beach at 32nd Street on the Balboa Peninsula at about 1:30 a.m., where a male body was brought ashore, Newport Beach police Lt. Evan Sailor said.

At this point, investigators are treating the case as an accidental drowning, according to police.

“There was no signs of any foul play,” Sailor said.

No other details were immediately available.
