DUI checkpoints this weekend

Newport-Mesa police will conduct DUI checkpoints over the next two nights, authorities announced.

From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday, Newport Beach police will be stationed on northbound Dover Drive and 16^th Street, stopping vehicles.

Officers chose the location because of its proximity to bars and restaurants, officials said.

From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, Costa Mesa police will be stationed at Adams Avenue and Mesa Verde Drive West checking for inebriated drivers and drivers without a valid license.

Both checkpoints are funded by the state Office of Traffic Safety.
