Memorial paddleout scheduled for Costa Mesa man

COSTA MESA — A paddleout memorial service for a 45-year-old Costa Mesa man who died while visiting family in Hawaii is set to take place this weekend.

About 100 friends and family members are expected to honor Brent William Bradley, who was an avid surfer.

“He was at the beach every single day,” said Allison Spoulos, his sister. “If he wasn’t at the beach, he had his surfboard on top of his car.”

Bradley is survived by his wife of 21 years, Chrissy Bond-Bradley, and 16-year-old daughter, Kendall Marie, who is blind.

The family is setting up a college fund for Kendall. Those who want to make contributions can make checks out to Bond-Bradley and take them to the memorial or the family home at 1154 Charleston St., Costa Mesa.

Bradley died April 12 of blunt force trauma after falling down the stars in a condominium while vacationing in Lahaina, Hawaii. A memorial took place April 20 on Maui.

Bradley, a Newport Beach native who worked in the real estate industry, was known among family and friends by several nicknames, including “Uncle B,” “Bob-O,” “Herb,” “Mr. B, Bubba” and “B-T,” according to his obituary.

Since the age of 5, Bradley was an avid dirt bike rider. He also volunteered at the Blind Children’s Learning Center, in an effort to make sure his daughter could thrive in a “sighted world,” his obituary said.

Bradley attended Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor high schools, playing football and volleyball while at Newport Harbor, which he graduated from in 1984. He also played on the Balboa Bay Club’s volleyball team.

The paddleout will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Blackies beach in Newport Beach.
