Aileen Rinehart Schrader passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on May 1, 2011 at the age of 89 in Palm Desert, CA. She touched the lives of so many people. She was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1922, the daughter of George and Ethel (Huntoon) Rinehart. She grew up in Los Angeles and was graduated from UCLA with a B.A. degree in History with a specialty in California History. She married Edward William Schrader on July 6, 1943 in South Pasadena, CA. Together, they raised four daughters; contributed their efforts to the community, and enjoyed tennis, gardening, an appreciation of art and history, entertaining and travelling, particularly throughout Asia.

Aileen actively supported education and the community throughout her life. Among her many contributions, she was a volunteer for the Civil Defense Corps; President of the East Whittier Women’s Club; President of the American Association of University Women; President of PEO chapters; President of the Whittier, Newport Beach and California Friends of the Library; President of The Hodge Foundation in Whittier, CA; Trustee of the Newport Beach Public Library; President of the American Library Trustees Association; President of the Assistance Leagues of both Newport Beach and Palm Springs Desert Area; a volunteer at the Rancho Mirage Public Library, and a member of the Desert Literary Society.

She is survived by her daughters and their spouses The Rev. Ellie Shapton, Lucy and Ralph Archuleta, Carolyn Schrader and Bill Martin, and Judy Schrader as well as by her two grandchildren Jeremy and Christine Archuleta. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Edward William Schrader, who passed away on June 25, 1997.

A memorial service was held at her home on Monday evening, May 2, 2011. Her family is grateful for all the beautiful thoughts expressed in her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to a charity of your choice. She will be remembered for her great interest in the world around her as well as her intelligence, integrity, wit, insight, appreciation of beauty, kindness and love for her family.
