Coupon website donates to local schools

Share

A number of online deal sites have popped up offering the best rates on everything from hotel rooms to karate classes, but one Orange County-based website is also giving back to the community.

Screamin Daily Deals lets users choose a local school, nonprofit or religious organization to support with 10% of the organization’s profits from each purchase and $1 for each person that signs up, said Community Director Marina Downs.

“It’s so easy,” she said. “You don’t have to ask parents to volunteer.”

The website sends customers daily customized coupons based on where they live that are limited in number and only available for a set amount of time. Residents can purchase the deals for themselves or gift them to others.

Through the company, a Costa Mesa elementary school, Davis Magnet, has already earned $2,000, said Downs, a parent at the school.

School organizations can also sign up to receive money. Newport Harbor High School’s music program has registered to receive donations, giving residents the option to donate to the specific program or the school.

The schools will receive their earnings quarterly provided it’s more than $100, Downs said.
