Border Run to aid family of dead sailor

Share

The family of a sailor who died during a Newport Harbor Yacht Club co-sponsored race will receive funds raised during Saturday’s Border Run International Sailing Event.

Craig Williams was one of six crew members aboard the Uncontrollable Urge, a 32-foot vessel participating in the fourth annual Islands Race in early March. He died and the rest of the crew was injured when the surf line broke apart the drifting sailboat late at night near San Clemente Island, Coast Guard officials said at the time.

Williams, 36, of San Diego, was part of the Silver Gate Yacht Club.

Those wishing to help his pregnant wife and their 4-year-old daughter can donated via https://www.theborderrun.org. Sailors have amassed $77,000 so far but are aiming for $100,000.
