Alice Baker
Alice Baker, age 83, joined her husband and granddaughter in heaven on Tuesday, April 23rd. She was born in Beaulah North Dakota on April 18th, 1930 to her parents Adam Rueb & Elizabeth (Redmann) Rueb. From a very young age, Alice was infatuated with reading and learning. Alice was valedictorian of her high school class and earned a scholarship to college. She had an adventurous and independent nature and headed west for California. While in California she reconnected with a classmate, Lloyd Baker, who would later become her husband. They had two children, Brenda & Shelley. She worked many years in the Ocean View School District; most of her time was spent at Vista View Elementary School. She also spent much of her time raising her two daughters. In addition to learning, Alice also loved to cook. Her homemade jam and jarred pickles were a favorite of many. In her spare time, you could find Alice out back tending to her garden or reading books. Out of all of Alice’s joys in her life, family was the most important, especially her four grandchildren, Lauren, Erin, Brooke and Cole. Her family will always remember her, always love her, and always hold her in their hearts. Alice was strong, independent, witty, intelligent, accepting, and deeply loving. Alice is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Jenkins and Shelley Paulson, her two sons-in-law: Jerry Jenkins and Jim Paulson, her three grandchildren: Erin Jenkins, Cole Jenkins and Brooke Lee, and her sister Alta Lehmann. The funeral service will be held at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Mortuary in Costa Mesa at 3 pm on Wednesday, May 1st. The family is asking that all donations be made to the Friends of the Costa Mesa Library, Mesa Verde Bookstore where Alice spent the last years of her life volunteering.
