Subscribe to Daily Pilot breaking news alerts

The Daily Pilot’s digital presence is constantly changing and improving, and we’re excited to announce some new features we hope will help our readers get the news they want faster and better.

First, we’re bringing back breaking news alerts, which will go out to subscribers via email. The alerts will quickly get out the basics of a breaking news story — such as a major car crash, fire or school lockdown — as soon as we become aware of it. We’ll continue to update the story on our website as we get information, but the alerts will now be the first source of information.

To subscribe, visit https://www.dailypilot.com/about/newsletters. Just enter your email address and check which alerts you’d like to receive. There will also be an option to sign up for alerts from our sister newspapers, the Coastline Pilot in Laguna Beach and the Huntington Beach Independent.

Community pages

We recognize that because we cover different cities — Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Irvine — not all readers necessarily want to read the goings-on for all three of them. So we’ve recently built separate pages on our website, one for each city, so that residents can more easily find and read the news that most affects them.

To find Newport Beach-only news, visit https://www.dailypilot.com/news/newport-beach; for Costa Mesa, https://www.dailypilot.com/news/costa-mesa; and for Irvine, https://www.dailypilot.com/news/irvine.

Calendar

We introduced our new online calendar submissions earlier this year, and it’s been a great success so far. Now we’d like to take it a step further and use your submitted events in our print calendar, as well. To that end, we will no longer be accepting calendar submissions via email.

We’re now asking for all calendar items to be submitted at https://www.dailypilot.com/calendar or through the Calendar tab on our Facebook page.

As a reminder, all submissions are edited and processed by Daily Pilot staff, and we accept only events that are in our cities of coverage. Please make your submissions as detailed as possible, including time, date, location and cost.
