Arson unit looking into structure fire

The Costa Mesa Fire Department arson unit is investigating the cause of a weekend fire at a commercial property on West Baker Street, authorities said Monday.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of West Baker Street at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release.

The blaze started next to the loading dock area under a 20-foot-tall metal awning and had spread to the back wall of the building when fire crews arrived.

The fire was extinguished in 15 minutes and no injuries were reported, the release said. It caused $10,000 in damage to the building and about $1,000 in lost property, the release stated.
