Newport Beach is accepting applications for 10 college scholarships.
The $500 scholarships, which are funded by a private donation, can be applied toward any area of study, according to a news release.
The city's scholarship program was established in 1981 to assist students who live in Newport Beach in obtaining a higher education at a community college or four-year university.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The criteria used for selection includes academic standing, leadership at school or in the community, essays on career and life plans, and financial need, according to the release.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. April 28. They can be accessed at newportbeachca.gov/scholarshipapplication.
