College Roundup: Orange Coast College baseball shuts out Long Beach City

MJ Gabaldon pitched six shutout innings, and the Orange Coast College baseball team beat Long Beach City 4-0 on Thursday in a nonconference road game.

Gabaldon (1-0) allowed two hits, walked two and struck out two. Jack Noble pitched three shutout innings in relief for his second save.

Cary Arbolida and Nolan Funke each had run-scoring triples for OCC (3-6).

Vanguard 10, Park University 3: Chad Sutton, Josh Weeks and Grady Conner hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning for the Lions on Thursday in a nonconference game at home.

Isaiah Lee had three runs batted in for Vanguard (8-2).

Garrett Molnar earned the win, allowing just two hits over five innings. He struck out eight.

Golden West 4, Bakersfield 2: Justin Simpson and Anthony Marquez each had two hits for the Rustlers in Thursday’s nonconference win at home.

Seth Nelson had three runs batted in for Golden West (5-7).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UC Irvine 82, Cal State Fullerton 75: Sophia Locandro had 23 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the host Anteaters on Thursday in a Big West Conference game at Bren Events Center.

UC Irvine (8-16, 4-6 in conference) outscored Cal State Fullerton 30-17 in the fourth quarter.

Lauren Saiki added 18 points, seven assists and four rebounds for the Anteaters. Haleigh Talbert had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Alexus Seaton chipped in with 11 points.

Vanguard 75, Life Pacific 35: Sierra Vaglica and Vanessa Murphy each had 12 points for the Lions on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game on the road.

Michaella Elad added eight points, 16 rebounds and three steals for Vanguard (19-3, 11-2 in conference). Victoria Chea had 10 points and eight assists.

Santa Ana 75, Golden West 46: Roxie Aquino led the Rustlers with nine points in Thursday’s Orange Empire Conference road game.

Golden West is now 3-19 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 85, Life Pacific 75 (OT): Phillip Willis led the visiting Lions with 24 points on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Isaiah Gentry had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Vanguard (13-12, 6-7 in conference). Masie Mohammadi added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Santa Ana 82, Golden West 77: Eric Watson scored 18 points for the Rustlers in Thursday’s Orange Empire Conference road game.

Golden West fell to 3-23 overall and 1-13 in the conference.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

El Camino 7, Orange Coast 2: The Pirates fell to 2-3 after Thursday’s nonconference home loss.
