High School Roundup: Marina baseball rallies to stun Dana Hills

Gavin Langer hit a walk-off, bases-loaded single, and the Marina High baseball team beat Dana Hills 3-2 in a Loara Tournament quarterfinal game Tuesday at home.

David Mashburn and Rocco Peppi each had run-scoring doubles in the bottom of the seventh, when the Vikings (4-2) scored all three of their runs.

Connor Wylde, who got the win in relief to improve to 1-1, and Trevor Lanksbury each also had hits.

Edison 4, Sonora 0: Tyler Weaver tripled and scored a run for the host Chargers in Tuesday’s Loara Tournament game.

Luke Serven picked up the win for Edison (3-2).

Fountain Valley 4, Santa Margarita 3 (eight innings): Blake Wentz had two run-scoring singles, including the eventual game winner in the eighth inning, for the Barons in Tuesday’s Loara Tournament game on the road.

Noah Karliner and Cole Wentz also had run-scoring singles for Fountain Valley (4-1).

Corona del Mar 8, Paramount 5: The visiting Sea Kings improved to 3-2 after Tuesday’s Foothill Division game of the Newport Elks Tournament.

CdM (2-2) plays a tournament game at Santa Fe on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Edison 11, Cerritos 4: Emma Mendoza went four for four with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in to lead the Chargers on Tuesday in nonleague play.

Bella Martinez also went four for four with a double and two RBIs for the Chargers (2-1). Hailie Benko drove in three runs.

Talia Hannappel threw a complete game, allowing three earned runs. The New Mexico commit struck out 10 batters.

Cerritos Whitney 7, Laguna Beach 0: The visiting Breakers fell to 0-2 on the season following Tuesday’s nonleague game.

Paramount 10, Costa Mesa 0: Alexis Litvak struck out five for the host Mustangs on Tuesday in a nonleague game at home.

Costa Mesa is now 0-3.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 9, Beckman 9 (CdM wins 78-75 on games): Logan Friedman and Max Krykunenko each swept in singles for the host Sea Kings in Tuesday’s nonleague season opener.

John Dick won twice in singles for the Sea Kings.

Laguna Beach 12, Aliso Niguel 6: Ian MacLaughlin won twice in singles for the Breakers in Tuesday’s nonleague season opener on the road.

Andrew Johnson and Mohamad Berri swept in doubles for Laguna Beach.

Fountain Valley 13, Foothill 5: The Barons improved to 2-0 after Tuesday’s nonleague win on the road.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Pacifica Christian Orange County 3, Lynwood Firebaugh 0: Jackson Baugh had a team-high 16 kills to lead the Tritons on Tuesday in their season opener.

Cal Snider added three service aces for Pacifica Christian. Libero Bennett Penticuff had a 2.22 passing average.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

San Clemente 11, Edison 7: Gwen Ontiveros scored four goals for the Chargers in Tuesday’s nonleague road match.

Rylee Siegal scored twice for Edison (2-2).

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 13, Servite 8: The visiting Sailors notched a win in their season opener on Tuesday.

San Juan Hills 18, Sage Hill 2: The host Lightning dropped Tuesday’s opener.
