High School Roundup: Fountain Valley boys’ cross-country beats Edison

Dezi Hernandez ran 15 minutes 55.6 seconds in earning the individual victory, as the visiting Fountain Valley High boys’ cross-country team clipped Edison 26-29 in a Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet on Saturday.

Benjamin Prado (second, 16:05.0), Jaden Nguyen (sixth, 16:25.7), Shane Hill (seventh, 16:26.5) and Diego Alonso (10th, 16:54.5) completed the scoring quintet for the Barons.

Edison had three runners place in the top five in Wylie Cleugh (third, 16:07.6), Jeff Ritter (fourth, 16:20.2) and Christopher Chan (fifth, 16:21.5).

Huntington Beach 23, Ocean View 34: Nolan Walt won the race in 16:14.2 for the visiting Oilers Saturday in a Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet.

Ocean View was led by Diego Gonzalez (second, 16:24.0) and Parker Walpole (third, 16:29.5), but Huntington Beach pushed across the next four runners to clinch the contest.

Marina 15, Westminster 49: Vincent Beaumont was the winner for Marina with a time of 16:47 in Saturday’s Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet at home.

Santa Ana 15, Costa Mesa 47: Junior Juan Ramos (15:40.2) and sophomore Jimmy Dominguez (15:43.3) paced the field for the victorious Saints, who had the top six finishers in the race on Wednesday.

Senior Jackson Wrubel was the top runner for the host Mustangs, finishing seventh in 18:39.7.

Estancia vs. Orange: Christopher Abraham ran 19:19.7 to win Wednesday’s race for the host Panthers, who had five of their scoring runners among the top seven finishers and totaled 19 team points.

Estancia, which did not have the requisite five runners to establish a team score, was led by Andres Aguirre (third, 20:03.4) and Emmanuel Monroy (sixth, 23:01.0).

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Fountain Valley 15, Edison 42: The visiting Barons posted the minimum team point total in Saturday’s win in a Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet.

With Leah Ferris (19:05.1) winning the race, Kiera Tallas (19:42.5), Sydney Macklin (20:12.9), Samantha Martinez (20:15.2) and Evelyn To (20:24.7) filled out the top five in that order for Fountain Valley.

Hallie Chen paced the Chargers, finishing sixth in 20:41.3.

Huntington Beach 18, Ocean View 41: Oilers junior Claire Lewis (18:47.4) edged out teammate Quinn Roldan (18:49.9) at the finish line in Saturday’s Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet.

Huntington Beach’s scoring five also included Andrea Linggi-Perez (fourth, 19:49.1), Luna Centeno (fifth, 19:56.1) and Lindsay Rule (sixth, 20:13.9).

Elizabeth King earned third place for Ocean View with a time of 19:28.8.

Marina 17, Westminster 46: Marikay Schwab (19:47), Ella Murray (19:54) and Elizabeth Krysinski (20:11) grabbed the top three spots for the host Vikings on Saturday in a Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet.

Costa Mesa 21, Santa Ana 34: Senior Jaqueline Rodriguez (20:19.5) picked up an individual victory for the second week in a row, and the Mustangs improved to 2-0 in Orange Coast League dual meets on Wednesday at home.

Juniors Angeles Alatorre (third, 20:49.0) and Daisy Carrillo (fourth, 21:35.9) also placed in the top five to lead Costa Mesa.

Estancia 22, Orange 36: Guadalupe Olivares placed second in 23:18.8 to lead the visiting Eagles to a win in their season opener on Wednesday.

Valerie Madrid (third, 23:41.3), Maria Promotor (fourth, 24:32.5), Destiny Radillo (sixth, 25:50.3) and Marelen Melgar (seventh, 26:24.3) filled out the scoring quintet for Estancia.
