High School Roundup: Huntington Beach baseball mounts late rally to beat Marina

A bases-loaded single by Caden Aoki scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Huntington Beach High School baseball team rallied to beat Marina 5-4 on Tuesday in a Sunset Conference crossover game.

Right-handed pitcher Matthew Lopez allowed one run on one hit in four innings pitched for Huntington Beach (5-2). He walked one and struck out seven.

Marina fell to 3-4.

The teams play again Wednesday at Marina at 3:15 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Segerstrom 9, Newport Harbor 3 (eight innings): Ava Nolan, McKayla Cotton and Lindsey Blanchfield each had two hits in the nonleague contest for the Sailors on Tuesday at home.

Gizzelle Altamirano had three hits and three runs batted in for the Jaguars, and Rebeca Cabezas added three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs.

BOYS’ GOLF

The Edison boys’ golf team finished with a team score of five-over-par 185 on Tuesday to lead the field in a four-team contest on Tuesday at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach.

The Chargers went 3-0 on the day, besting Corona del Mar (190), Mater Dei (193) and Newport Harbor (195). The par for the course was 36.

Peter Hu of CdM and Newport Harbor’s Nick Thayer were the co-medalists, each carding 34 for their nine holes.

Troy Tarvin, Jack Krueger and Timothy Jung all shot 36 to lead Edison (5-2, 3-0 in the Surf League).

Estancia 193, Costa Mesa 238: Hayden Jones was the medalist in carding a score of 37 on the par-35 Mesa Linda Course at Costa Mesa Country Club on Tuesday in the Battle for the Bell.

Costa Mesa is now 1-1 overall and in the Orange Coast League. Estancia, which has won four in a row, improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Estancia 262, Costa Mesa 280: Sydney Ngo shot a one-over-par 36 playing from the silver tees as the medalist for the Mustangs on the Mesa Linda Course at Costa Mesa Country Club on Tuesday in the Battle for the Bell.

Costa Mesa dropped to 1-1 in the Orange Coast League with the loss to rival Estancia (1-1, 1-1).
