High School Roundup: Corona del Mar girls’ tennis routs Edison

Jane Paulsen, Sara Miller and Sydnee Spirlin all swept in doubles Thursday for the Corona del Mar High School girls’ tennis team, which defeated Edison 17-1 in a Sunset Conference crossover match at Edison High.

The doubles teams of Cate Montgomery and Lauren Jones, as well as Coco Davis and Shea Tomac, each swept for CdM (7-2).

Edison fell to 1-9 this season.

The Sea Kings host Marina on Tuesday, while Edison hosts Huntington Beach.

Laguna Beach 15, Newport Harbor 3: Jessica MacCallum, Katelyn Smith and Sarah MacCallum all swept in singles for the Breakers in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at Laguna Beach.

The Breakers’ doubles teams of Cree Gagne and Laea Chesley, Kendyl Beresford and Madison Pikoos, as well as Zoey Cutter and Camille Deckey, all won twice. Newport Harbor’s No. 1 doubles team of Kendall Solomon and Riley Bogard earned a sweep.

Laguna Beach (3-3) hosts Los Alamitos on Tuesday, while Newport Harbor (4-6) plays at Fountain Valley.

Los Alamitos 9, Fountain Valley 9 (Los Alamitos wins 83-76 on games): Sophie Vu swept in singles for the Barons in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at Los Alamitos High.

Katelyn Nguyen won twice in singles for Fountain Valley (4-6).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Pacifica Christian Orange County 3, Orangewood Academy 0: Junior middle blocker Rebecca Penjoyan had 10 kills and seven service aces to lead the Tritons over the host Spartans 25-13, 25-18, 25-23 on Thursday in an Academy League match.

Junior defensive specialist Danisha Salinas added six aces, and freshman outside hitter Kaelin Rieke contributed five blocks for Pacifica Christian (13-8, 4-2).

The Tritons will travel to take on Santa Monica Pacifica Christian on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Costa Mesa 3, Orange 0: Lorelei Hobbis had 15 kills, five aces and five digs for the visiting Mustangs on Thursday in an Orange Coast League contest.

Costa Mesa (14-4, 6-1) returns home to face Santa Ana on Tuesday.
