High School Roundup: Estancia baseball blows out Saddleback

Riley Witte and Andrew Mits combined for five hits, five runs scored and six runs batted in for the Estancia High School baseball team in its 21-2 win over Saddleback in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League game on the road.

Blake Peck was two for three with an RBI for Estancia (14-2, 2-2), while James De La O was three for five with two RBIs.

Estancia hosts Santa Ana on Friday.

Corona del Mar 8, Newport Harbor 1: Max Lane was two for three with a home run and two runs batted in for the host Sea Kings on Wednesday in a Wave League game.

Brycen Hill got the win after pitching the complete game for CdM (8-6, 2-0 in the Wave League). He allowed one earned run and five hits, walking one and striking out eight.

Dennis Fitzpatrick finished two for three with a double and three RBIs for CdM. Van Sidebotham and Charlie Mannon each had two hits and two runs scored.

Trent Liolios hit a solo home run for Newport Harbor (9-5, 0-2), accounting for the Sailors’ run.

CdM hosts Laguna Beach on Friday, while Newport Harbor plays at home against Marina.

Marina 9, Laguna Beach 6: The visiting Vikings rallied from a 5-0 deficit to earn the win in Wednesday’s Wave League game.

Tyler Wilson had a home run and two RBIs for Marina (4-10, 1-1), while Collin Miskelly had a double and plated two runs.

Tyler Montgomery homered for Laguna Beach (7-6, 1-1), which got doubles from Shea Blanchard, Joey Capobianco, Colin Kidd and Griffin Naess.

Huntington Beach 6, Los Alamitos 0: The host Oilers improved to 4-0 in Surf League play after Wednesday’s home win.

Huntington Beach (9-4) hosts Fountain Valley on Friday.

Fountain Valley 3, Edison 1: Chris Ouellette was two for three with two RBIs for the Barons in Wednesday’s Surf League game at Fountain Valley High School.

Keith Aguilar had a triple and two runs scored for Fountain Valley (7-8, 1-1), which got four shutout innings from Ryder Brooks.

Edison fell to 0-2 in league.

SOFTBALL

Costa Mesa 20, Saddleback 4: MaryAnna Bijanjan drove in four runs and scored three runs for the Mustangs on Wednesday in an Orange Coast League opener at home.

Joseline Cruz and Reygan Schneider each had three runs batted in for Costa Mesa (6-5).

Calvary Chapel 18, Estancia 1: The host Eagles were blown out Wednesday in an Orange Coast League opener, dropping to 3-9 overall for the season.

Santa Ana 22, Laguna Beach 5: The Breakers fell to 0-6 overall with Wednesday’s nonleague loss on the road.

BOYS’ GOLF

Estancia 204, Costa Mesa 240: Senior Cristopher Rodriguez carded an even-par-35 round from the blue tees on the front nine at Costa Mesa Country Club, but the Mustangs were beaten by the Eagles on Wednesday in an Orange Coast League match.

Costa Mesa, which dropped to 3-2 overall and in league, will face Calvary Chapel on Monday at Willowick Golf Course.

Estancia improved to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in league.

The Battle for the Bell rivals will meet again on April 18.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Huntington Beach 3, Laguna Beach 1: The visiting Oilers defeated the Breakers 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19 to earn their first win in Surf League play on Wednesday night.

Huntington Beach (12-7, 1-1) is the No. 10-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2 combined poll.

Laguna Beach (10-9, 0-1) is ranked fifth in Division 3.

Fountain Valley 3, Marina 0: The Barons swept the Vikings 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 on Wednesday in a Wave League opener at home.

Fountain Valley (7-5) is ranked seventh in Division 4.

Marina (13-6) has lost its last three matches.
