Niels Hoffmann and Jack Cross swept in singles as the Corona del Mar High School boys’ tennis team earned a 12-6 Surf League win at Los Alamitos on Wednesday.

Max Krykunenko won twice in singles for CdM (16-2, 4-0 in the Surf League), which clinched at least a share of the league title. Jonathan Hinkel and Jack Knox won twice at No. 1 doubles.

Corona del Mar is ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, and Los Alamitos (2-2) is ranked No. 2 in Division 2.

CdM hosted Marina in a crossover match Thursday and plays at home against Fountain Valley on April 18.

BASEBALL

Huntington Beach 3, Rochester (NY) McQuaid Jesuit 1: Matthew Lopez earned the win, and Hunter Drake got the save for the Oilers on Wednesday in the first round of the Nation High School Invitational.

Huntington Beach improved to 13-4 overall with its ninth straight win. Nicholas Dumesnil drove in two runs for the Oilers.

Marina 7, Yorba Linda 2: The Vikings improved to 6-15 on the season with a victory Wednesday in the Ryan Lemmon Tournament.

Laguna Beach 5, Brea Olinda 4: Max Burchi and Griffin Naess each had two hits and a run batted in to help the Breakers to a win on Wednesday in the Ryan Lemmon Tournament.

Laguna Beach moved its record to 11-9 overall.

SOFTBALL

Costa Mesa 14, Orange 8: Megan Yat had a double, a triple and five runs batted in for the Mustangs on Wednesday in an Orange Coast League game on the road.

Annalee Mendoza added three hits and three RBIs for Costa Mesa (8-6, 3-1), which plays at Estancia (5-11, 2-3) on Friday in the Battle for the Bell. The Mustangs beat the rival Eagles 16-1 in the first meeting this season.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 177, Huntington Beach 183: John Tipton was the medalist for the Sea Kings after carding a four-under-par 32 on the afternoon at the Huntington Club.

Corona del Mar improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Surf League, while Huntington Beach is now 9-2 overall and 1-1 in league.

Costa Mesa 221, Orange 307: Senior Cristopher Rodriguez earned medalist honors for the visiting Mustangs on Wednesday with a round of four-over-par 38 in an Orange Coast League match at Riverview Golf Course.

The golfers competed from the white tees on the front nine.

Costa Mesa (6-3 overall and in league) will take on rival Estancia (9-4, 6-0) in the Battle for the Bell at Costa Mesa Country Club on Monday.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 12, Draper (UT) Corner Canyon 11 (2OT): Ty Caffarelli scored the game-winning goal for the Sea Kings on Wednesday in a nonleague match.

Logan Ip and Lucas Newton scored four goals apiece for CdM (10-1).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Laguna Beach 3, Godinez 0: Mack Pardun had a team-high 13 kills and three blocks to lead the Breakers to a 25-11, 25-8, 25-12 sweep of the Grizzlies on Wednesday in a nonleague match.

Laird Garcia added 12 kills and three blocks, and Trey Ovens had 10 kills and three blocks for Laguna Beach (14-17). Gavin Zaengle contributed 43 assists.
