Edison High quarterback Griffin O’Connor is not going all in with UNLV.

The incoming senior said on Monday that he decommitted from the Rebels football program, two months after O’Connor verbally committed to the school in Las Vegas.

“After much thought, prayer and deliberation with my family, I have made the difficult decision to decommit from UNLV,” O’Connor said in a message on Twitter. “I am so grateful to the entire UNLV coaching staff for their belief in me and the support they have given me. I have the utmost respect and admiration for Coach Sanchez and his staff, the team, and the direction they are heading, but my path is going in a different direction.”

With UNLV off the table, O’Connor has other options.

O’Connor has five offers from NCAA Football Championship Subdivision programs, Ivy League schools Columbia, Cornell and Dartmouth, and one from Sacramento State and Indiana State.

As a junior, O’Connor led the Chargers to a CIF Southern Section Division 3 title and a Sunset League championship.

Last season, O’Connor earned the Sunset League MVP award. He passed for 3,600 yards and 37 touchdowns, both Edison single-season records, threw only six interceptions, and rushed for 415 yards and 10 touchdowns.

While UNLV lost its gunslinger, other schools will be following O’Connor. Interest in the 6 feet 3, 200-pound quarterback will only intensify with Edison’s season getting underway at Tesoro on Aug. 25.
