College Roundup: Anteaters upset 49ers

UC Irvine def. Long Beach State

IRVINE — Carson Clark had a match-high 24 kills to help the No. 8-ranked Anteaters upset No. 3 Long Beach State, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action Wednesday at Bren Events Center.

Senior outside hitter Jordan DuFault recorded a season-high 17 kills and eight digs, while senior outside hitter Cory Yoder added 11 kills for UCI (7-8, 4-5 in the MPSF). Senior setter Anthony Spittle amassed 46 assists, while libero Will Montgomery made his season debut with a match-high 11 digs.

The 49ers are 6-5, 5-3.

UCI will play host to Cal State Northridge Friday at 6 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Pacific 75, UC Irvine 51

STOCKTON — Darren Moore led the Anteaters with 22 points in the Big West Conference game Wednesday night.

It was Moore’s 11th 20-point game of the season. Chris McNealy added nine points and Mike Wilder had eight points and five rebounds for UCI (11-16, 4-9 in conference).

The Tigers are 15-10, 7-5.

Fullerton 69, Orange Coast 65

COSTA MESA — Will Ligon scored 19 points to lead the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday.

Chris Baxter and John Russo added 10 points each, while Jake Fedro had nine points for OCC (5-21, 1-10 in conference).

The Pirates led, 32-27, at halftime, but Fullerton (12-15, 6-5) shot 40% from the field (10 for 25) to spark their second-half performance.
