High School Roundup: CdM boys’ lacrosse scores big win

Corona del Mar 10, Monte Vista 9

CORONA DEL MAR — With 24 seconds left in a nonleague game Wednesday, Jack Ortlieb scored the game-winning goal for the Sea Kings against Danville Monte Vista, ranked No. 10 in the state by laxpower.com.

Michael Keasey finished with five goals and Ortlieb scored twice for CdM (8-1), ranked 44th in the state.

Hunter Molnar, Casey Mix and defender Donald Dalton each had one goal. Mix added three assists.

Goalie Michael Ortlieb made 15 saves.

Huntington Beach 13, Newport Harbor 5

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Riley Robinson scored three goals in the Sailors’ Sunset League game Wednesday.

Luke Toohey and Jake Turner had one goal apiece for Newport Harbor (3-7, 1-4 in league).

BOYS’ TRACK & FIELD

Newport Harbor 77, Huntington Beach 54

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior sprinter Titus Hasson won the 100-meter event in 11.1 seconds and 200 in 22.5, helping the host Sailors improve to 3-1 in Sunset League action on Wednesday.

Jake Barber won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 34.3 seconds. Austin Little took first in the 3,200 (10:09).

Mark Sakioka won the pole vault (14 feet, six inches) and Ryan Andrews won the shot put (58-3).

Steven Zayda placed first in two events, long jump (19-5) and high jump (6-0).

Other Newport Harbor winners included Asa Lohr in the triple jump (39-1 1/2) and Ethan Cochran in the discus (180-4).

Dylan Murphy finished second in the 110 high hurdles (16.2) and 300 intermediate hurdles (41.6).

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Corona del Mar 133, Woodbridge 37

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior John Kim won the 200-yard individual medley and also anchored the winning 200 medley relay for CdM during the Pacific Coast League meet Wednesday.

Liam Karas, Garrett Larson, Jared Namba and Kim swam the medley relay in 1 minute, 40.76 seconds. Kim won the 200 IM in 1:59.48, a CIF Division I automatic time.

Karas won the 200 free (1:50.16) and Namba the 50 free (22.27) for the Sea Kings. Nick Treadaway won the 100 fly in 56.72, Ari Marks captured the 100 free in 48.11 and Paul Sigler was first in the 500 free in 5:01.68.

CdM (3-0 in league) swept the top three spots in each of those six indivudal events. Christian Garkani also won the 100 back in a CIF auto time of 54.46 for CdM, which also won both freestyle relays.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Corona del Mar 122, Woodbridge 48

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior Hollace Barden won the 100-yard freestyle and anchored two winning relays in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League victory Wednesday at CdM.

Barden won the 100 free in 54.07 seconds. The 200 medley relay team of Natalie Wong, Pippa Saunders, Brynne Wong and Barden also won in 1:55.86, as did the 400 free relay team of Ally McCormick, Saunders, Ellen Naruse and Barden (3:44.12).

Saunders won the 200 free (1:59.40) and 50 free (25.72) for Corona del Mar (3-0 in league). Brynne Wong won the 100 fly in 59.20 and Naruse won the 500 free in 5:13.17. The 200 free relay team of Devon Greenlee, Tori Gabert, Cassidy Papa and McCormick also won in 1:46.42.

CdM plays host to University on Friday.

GIRLS’ TRACK & FIELD

Huntington 94, Newport Harbor 42

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior sprinter Michelle Edwards clocked in a 13.4 seconds to win the 100-meter event in the Sailors’ Sunset League meet Wednesday.

Paige Tennison placed first in 3200 at 11 minutes, 29 seconds.

Kasey Thompson recorded two personal bests, helping her finish second in both the discus (108 feet, seven inches) and shot put (34-6) for Newport (0-4 in league).

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 194, Irvine 219

IRVINE — Junior John Davenport earned medalist honors after shooting a one-over-par 37 in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League match at Oak Creek Golf Club on Wednesday.

CdM improved to 14-1, 7-0 in league.

Brian Mull recorded a 38, followed by Mike Moorhead and Karick Brown, who each had 39s.

Tanner Trauthen and Chase Wheatly both shot 41s.

Sage Hill 223, Fairmont Prep 251

IRVINE — Sage Hill’s Tanner Tremaine was the medalist for the first time this year, firing a three-over-par 39 in the nonleague match Wednesday at Strawberry Farms Golf Club.

Darren Chen (42) and Kam Fujii (45) also contributed to the win for the Lightning (6-1).

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 13, Northwood 5

IRVINE — Gabby Smith recorded six goals to lead the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League game Wednesday.

Torrey Attyah contributed three goals and three assists for CdM (4-1 in league).

Goalie Sarah Hostetler, who finished with 14 saves, only allowed one goal in the second half.
