NEWPORT BEACH — Sophomore Chase Wheatley shot a two-under par 33 at Newport Beach Country Club, earning medalist honors Wednesday as the Sea Kings closed out their second straight undefeated Pacific Coast League championship season.

CdM extended its school record win total to 21. The Sea Kings have only lost once this season.

Wheatley had three birdies.

Mike Moorhead finished with a 36, followed by 37s by Ryan Grable and John Davenport, and Brian Mull had a 38.

The Sea Kings compete at the league preliminaries Monday on the Mile Square Golf Club Classic Course at 9 a.m.



Newport Harbor def. Marina

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sophomore middle blocker Kevin Rakestraw finished with 11 kills and five blocks as the Sailors swept host Marina, 25-8, 25-12, 25-16, Wednesday and improved to 7-0 in Sunset League play.

Ian Sequeira had 29 assists for Newport Harbor (19-7 overall), which is ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches' poll.

Cody Caldwell contributed seven kills.

Chris Sheppard and Rusty Sary each had six kills.

The Sailors play host to Edison Friday at 5:45 p.m.


Corona del Mar def. Northwood

IRVINE — Parker Brown had 11 kills and three digs to help the Sea Kings to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 Pacific Coast League win Wednesday.

Evan Dean (seven kills and three block assists), Jack Reed (seven kills and two blocks), Spencer Haly (seven kills and three block assists) and Brennan Anderson (six kills) also contributed for CdM (21-4, 7-0 in league), which plays at Woodbridge on Friday.



Corona del Mar 74, Beckman 52

IRVINE — Ashlee Powers won three events and Karléh Wilson won two for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Wednesday.

Powers won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 24 seconds, the 1,600 in 5:23.6 and the 3,200 in 12:49.5.

Wilson won the shot put (37 feet) and the discus (119-0). Nica Sabouni (1:01.6 in the 400) and Sara Neijber (29-8 in the triple jump) also won for CdM.



Corona del Mar 67, Beckman 60

IRVINE — Troy Bolus won the long jump (18 feet, 10 inches) and triple jump (37-6) for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League meet Wednesday.

Ryan Rodrigues (51.2 in the 400 meters), Kyle Iverson (2:00.1 in the 800), Blake Myers (4:26.1 in the 1,600), Nick McGuinness (5-8 in the high jump) and Scott Youngman (46-6 in the shot put) also won for CdM.
