Locals capture crown at O.C. Cup

The Huntington Beach Water Polo Club boys' 10-and-Under team won its division Sunday at the O.C. Cup at Irvine High.

Huntington defeated Kahuna of Irvine, 14-13, in Sunday's division final.

The Huntington boys' 10U team is: Miles Simpson, Ethan Bettino, James Rozolis-Hill, Jacob Pyle, Brenden Tran, Randal Macias, Joshua Bowman, Charles Slutsky, Garrett Lee and Dayton-John Simpson.


Girls' Soccer

India Tye, Teagan Wasserman and Mikayla Edwards, all from Huntington Beach, play for the Legends Futbol Club (Chino Hills) girls' Under-12 team that won its division championship on Sunday at the 2012 US Youth Soccer Cal South National Cup tournament at Aliso Niguel High.

Legends FC defeated So Cal Blues of San Juan Capistrano, 1-0, in the final. The triumph gave Legends FC, which outscored its opposition, 10-1, back-to-back championships at the event.

Legends FC advances to the regional championship in Phoenix, Ariz., in June.


Ocean View Little League

Bulls 7, Mud Hens 5: The Bulls overcame an early, 2-0 deficit, to defeat the Mud Hens on Friday in Minor A Division action.

After the Mud Hens scored twice in the top half of the first inning, the Bulls scored five runs in the bottom of the first. The Mud Hens rallied for a run in the top of the fifth behind singles by Bruno Stenzel and Paul Crocker, and Jag Burden picked up a run batted in when he drew a bases loaded walk.


Mud Hens 14, Red Wings 10: The Mud Hens fell behind by three runs to the Red Wings but came back to pick up a win March 15 in a Minor A Division game.

Down 3-0, Thomas Williams and Kyle Roeder reached base in the bottom of the first before Chance DiMarco delivered an RBI double. Reilly Kells followed with an RBI single and later scored on an overthrow at the plate to put the Mud Hens on top, 5-3.

The Red Wings fought back to tie the score at 5. Nick Skorheim came up with a big catch in center field for the Mud Hens during the Red Wings' rally. The Mud Hens came back to score the five runs in the bottom of the seventh, with a triple by Jag Burden a key highlight during the scoring run.
