High School Roundup: Sea Kings finish sixth in TOC

INDIO — Corona del Mar High finished sixth out of 38 schools with a four-player score of 911 in the two-day 54-hole tournament that concluded Thursday at the Golf Club at Terra Lago.

Chase Wheatley (73-77-73—223) and Hale Furey (74-77-72—223) shot the low on the par-72 course for the Sea Kings.

The tournament had teams of five players and used the score of the top four from each team. CdM shot 300 as a team in the final round, which was the second lowest score of the day behind Diamond Bar.

Mike Moorhead (78-78-77—233), John Davenport (77-81-78—236), Brian Mull (78-77-81—236) and Karick Brown (78-82-75—236) also played for the Sea Kings.

Santa Margarita won the tournament.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

SAN FRANCISCO — Junior Jack Ortlieb (four assists), junior Casey Mix (three assists) and senior Michael Keasey (two assists) scored three goals each for the Sea Kings in their first game at the Jerry Langkammer Invitational at St. Ignatius Prep Thursday.

Senior Hunter Molnar added two goals, sophomore Jay Damon had one goal and two assists, and senior Aaron Khosh, junior Chris Von der Ahe and junior Chase McElroy each added a goal for CdM (12-0). Senior goalie Michael Ortlieb needed only four saves behind great defensive play of senior Connor Cruse, senior Eric Fisher, senior Matt English, freshman Hugh Crance and the rest of the CdM defensive players.
