High School Roundup: CdM grabs Back Bay triumph

NEWPORT BEACH — Corona del Mar High girls’ lacrosse coach Aly Vislocky said Tuesday’s girls’ lacrosse game at Newport Harbor was fun.

The Sea Kings made it fun for their coach as they posted a 15-6 victory over their rivals in the Battle of the Bay at Davidson Field.

Molly Rovzar led CdM (9-2) with four goals and three assists. Kacie Kline also scored four goals to go with two assists for the Sea Kings. Kylie Mulvaney had four draw controls and Kate Allen made six saves.

“These games are always fun because the girls play against the people they know at Newport Harbor,” Vislocky said. “Molly Rovzar had an amazing game. The cool thing about our team this year we have different people scoring all the time, so it’s not just one person.”

Vislocky added the Sea Kings have a big nonleague game on Thursday, when they play host to Foothill at 3:15 p.m.

BASEBALL

Estancia 3, Laguna Hills 2 (eight innings)

COSTA MESA — Alex Chairez produced the game-winning single, scoring Jackson Letterman for the Eagles in the Beach Pit Classic Tuesday.

Steven Macias (4-1) threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and one walk. He allowed eight hits and one earned run for Estancia (10-4, 3-0 in the Beach Pit Classic).

Tyler Rios (two for three, two runs, two runs batted in), Ben Beck (one for three), Jackson Letterman (one for four, two RBIs, one run) and Macias (one for three) also contributed offensively for the Eagles, who play shot to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. to close out play in the Beach Pit Classic.

Beck went two for three and pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and three walks in a 7-3 win over Greeley of Colorado on Monday.

Corona del Mar 6, Village Christian 1

CORONA DEL MAR — Hunter Heckendorn went two for four with a double for the Sea Kings in the Beach Pit Classic game Tuesday.

Tyler Duncan was two for three with a double and a run batted in, while Nick Roco and Tyler Maloney also drove in runs for CdM (5-8).

Freshman Evan Larsen pitched a complete-game four hitter for the Sea Kings, who lost to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, 5-1, on Monday.

CdM plays host to Laguna Hills Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. in the Beach Pit Classic.

BOYS’ GOLF

Estancia 204, Costa Mesa 235

COSTA MESA — Aaron Wood shot three-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors for Estancia at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course Monday.

Brad Earhorn shot 39 for Estancia (7-4, 5-0 in league). Sushil Bhakta also carded a 39 for the Mustangs (0-5 in league).

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Mullen (Colo.) 15, Newport Harbor 4

NEWPORT BEACH — Chris Buchanan scored three goals for the Sailors (3-9) Monday in their nonleague loss at home to visiting Mullen, the top-ranked team of Colorado, and No. 6-ranked nationally, per laxpower.com.

Brandon Rausch also scored, while assists were contributed by Kole Escher, Ritter Hagadorn, John Mooers and Nathan Chaness. Chaness won five of seven faceoffs and led the team with six groundballs, while Rausch had four groundballs.

The Sailors next play at Huntington Beach Friday at 5:45 p.m.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 10, Palm Desert 8

CORONA DEL MAR - Alec Adamson swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, to up his record to 28-3 for the Sea Kings in the nonleague match Tuesday.

Ryan Andrews and Pedro Hernandez won twice in doubles for CdM (15-1).

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Rancho Alamitos 114, Estancia 52

COSTA MESA -Shawn Lepard won in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 22.1 seconds for the Eagles in the nonleague meet Tuesday.

Niko Ridge swam a personal-best 1:02.17 in the 100 freestyle for Estancia (0-7), which competes at Ocean View April 8.
