Girls’ Soccer: Sage trio on first team

Share

Sage Hill senior Sophia Witte, junior Allie Mowrey and sophomore Kekai Whitford have earned first-team All-Academy League honors in girls’ soccer.

Witte, a defender and one of three team captains, provided stability on defense for the Lightning in her first year in that role. She kept Sage in many big games with her abilities.

Whitford stepped in as a goalkeeper since the team needed one, making 96 saves. She also provided a huge goal near the end of regulation of a CIF Southern Section Division 5 wild-card match at Riverside Norte Vista, a match Sage eventually won in a shootout.

Mowrey, a junior who like Whitford was a player on the Sage CIF 3-A finalist girls’ volleyball team, was a dynamic playmaker out of the center midfield position. She had two goals.

Sage Hill (13-8-4, 5-4-1 in league) finished third in league, and advanced to the first round of the Division 5 playoffs.

Sage Hill senior defender Campbell Moore and Francesca D’Agostino, as well as junior forward Meg Crade, were second-team all-league selections. Crade led Sage with eight goals scored.

McKenna Marmelstein of league champion St. Margaret’s earned league MVP honors, and Megan Tharp of Brethren Christian was league Coach of the Year.
