Newport Harbor High senior guard Nic Sargeant earned first-team All-Sunset League honors in boys’ basketball after he played a big role in the Sailors’ first CIF Southern Section playoff appearance in three seasons and their first playoff win in six seasons.

Sargeant averaged 15 points per game and made 58 three-pointers. Coach Bob Torribio said Sargeant was nine threes short of tying Newport Harbor’s single-season school record held by Dennis Heenan.

Seniors Kevin Rakestraw and Zach Wade each made the second team for Newport Harbor (14-14, 4-6 in league), which almost doubled its overall win total from the previous two seasons.
