Larson earns Heart and Soul award

University of Nebraska senior swimmer Kelsey Larson, a Corona del Mar High alumna, was honored Monday by the Nebraska athletic department with the prestigious Heart and Soul Award.

Larson was honored as part of the HERO Leadership breakfast, an annual event honoring student-athlete leaders from each varsity sport. The criteria for the HERO Award include exceptional leadership, consistent and dedicated community service and positive influence on the team. Along with football tight end Ben Cotton and tennis player Mary Weatherholt, Larson was one of three student-athletes to additionally earn the Heart and Soul award, for her positive impact on the community.

Kelsey Larson will be graduating from Nebraska on May 4 with a degree in biochemistry with high honors, said her mother, Jackie. Kelsey plans on applying to medical school.
