Costa Mesa Aquatics Club coaches Cody and Dustin Serrano have been named S&R; Sport Coaches of the Month for September by USA Water Polo.
The Serrano brothers, who are twins, have coached at CMAC since the club's inception three years ago. Most recently, they coached the club's 12-and-under boys' team to a gold medal at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics.
Costa Mesa Aquatics Club defeated top-seeded Alliance of Capistrano Valley, 9-7, to win the classic division gold medal on July 30 at Mater Dei High. CMAC had teams at Junior Olympics this year for the first time, three in all, and the 12U boys were the first team in program history to win gold.
Cody and Dustin Serrano played water polo locally at Costa Mesa High, graduating in 2009. For winning the Coaches of the Month, they receive a $50 gift certificate to SRSport.com.
They were nominated for the award by Costa Mesa High cheerleading coach Kori Johnson, whose son, Kevin, played goalie for the gold-medal winning squad.
