High School Roundup: Lyle's big single gives CdM win


Corona del Mar 5, Woodbridge 3

IRVINE — Junior Konrad Lyle broke up a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth inning with a two-out, two-run single, lifting the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League game at Ryan Lemmon Stadium on Wednesday.

CdM's Ryan Pierce went two for five with a double, while Sam Younesi and Wyatt Zalewski each went one for three with a run batted in.

Tyler Duncan and Teddy Stuka each doubled for the Sea Kings (3-11, 3-4 in league).

Brett Olson threw six innings and got the win. Blake Schneekluth picked up the save.

The Sea Kings open Beach Pit Classic play at home against Canyon on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Costa Mesa 3, Century 2

Kage Kistler threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, helping the host Mustangs win their final game at the Century Classic tournament on Wednesday.

Kistler, who struck out one and walked one, improved to 3-1.

Ryan Lether earned the save after holding Century hitless in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out two.

Costa Mesa (5-11) scored its three runs in the third inning, when Justin Fisher and Alex Jimenez each singled in a run.


Corona del Mar 18, Irvine 1

IRVINE — Kacie Kline scored five goals for the Sea Kings in Wednesday's Pacific Coast League game at Irvine High.

Sabrina Smith and Payton Carter each added three goals for CdM (8-3, 6-0 in league). Jenson Coop was a defensive standout, and goalie Lindsie Hoffman made six saves.

CdM, ranked No. 8 in Southern California by laxpower.com, plays host to top-ranked Foothill in a key nonleague game Monday.


Corona del Mar 8, San Ramon Valley 4

DANVILLE — Junior goalie Hoyt Crance made 10 saves for the visiting Sea Kings, ranked No. 26 in the state by laxpower.com, on Wednesday.

CdM's Jay Damon, Ben Palitz, Noah Howe, Sherwin Gersten, Brett Greenlee, Jason Simaan, Stephen Von Der Ahe and Jack Denning each had a goal against No. 20 Danville San Ramon Valley.

The Sea Kings improved to 7-1.
