Oilers still perfect

The Sunset League boys' volleyball season resumed Tuesday, and Edison and Huntington Beach both picked up victories.

Edison hosted Marina and the Chargers upended the Vikings in five sets, 25-17, 24-26, 27-29, 25-20, 15-11.

The Chargers improved to 4-2 in league.

Marina fell to 1-5 in league.

"We played well in Game 1," Edison Coach Trent Jackson said. "We had a let-up in Game 2, and Marina played well. The momentum shifted and they took sets two and three. We were able to battle back. They were putting some pressure on us late in Game 5 but they missed a couple serves late to let us off the hook.

Top-ranked Huntington recorded its second sweep of Newport Harbor in league play by defeating the host Sailors, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16. Brenden Sander had 11 kills, TJ DeFalco nine kills, and Drake Evans, Andrew Pearson and Ryan Morrissey each had six kills for the Oilers who upped their record to 21-0. They lead the Sunset at 6-0.

"This was a good, balanced performance," Huntington Coach Craig Pazanti said. "We passed the ball well, which allowed Josh [Tuaniga] to spread the ball around and keep everyone involved."

Huntington hosted Fountain Valley in a league match Wednesday. The score wasn't available at press time.

In Sunset matches Friday, Edison hosts Newport Harbor (5:30 p.m.) and Marina visits Los Alamitos (6 p.m.).
