A $2,900 bicycle was stolen from a Costa Mesa store when someone smashed a front window with a rock to get inside early Monday, police said.

Officers responded about 1:36 a.m. to an alarm ringing at The Cyclist bike store at 1785 Newport Blvd., Costa Mesa police Sgt. Jim Brown said.

Someone had tossed a basketball-sized rock through a window and then reached in to grab an expensive mountain bike, Brown said.

Police could not identify any suspects because the store’s surveillance cameras only captured the inside of the business, Brown said.
