Car crashes into Newport Beach bar

A Toyota Prius crashed into the side of a well-known bar on the Balboa Peninsula on Monday morning, resulting in significant damage but no injuries, authorities said.

Just after 9 a.m., Newport Beach police responded to reports that a vehicle had jumped a curb and slammed into the side of Cassidy’s Bar & Grill at 2603 Newport Blvd. The car bore the logo of AAA Emergency Services.

The original version of this story stated incorrectly that the vehicle was an SUV. In fact, it was a Prius.

The cost of the damage to the building was not immediately known.

The driver remained at the scene. No arrests were made.

Newport Beach City Council candidate Mike Glenn launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to help bar employees who are expected to be out of work for weeks. By Tuesday afternoon, the campaign had raised $2,285, exceeding its $1,000 goal.
