Steve Orr, devoted son, brother, husband, and father, passed away unexpectedly on July 2nd in La Canada at the age of 51. On July 1st, Steve and his wife Cheryl celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he attended Los Alamitos High School, the University of Southern California, and the Harvard Law School. Steve began practicing law in 1988 at the law firm of Richards, Watson, and Gershon in Los Angeles. He had just celebrated 25 years with the law firm in December of 2013. He took particular pride in his work on the Hiring Committee and the training and mentoring of young lawyers.

An avid golfer, Steve was the Team Captain for the La Canada Flintridge Country Club’s Traveling Team, won a team championship with his partner Bill Stoner, won the club’s First Flight Championship in 2009 and 2012, and served on the MGA board. He also loved trout fishing and spending time at the family cabin at Big Bear Lake.

Most importantly, Steve was a family man. He devoted himself to his immediate and extended family which expanded over the years to include neighbors, co-workers, and those of us who were lucky enough to be caught up in his sphere of influence. Steve was also a loyal member of the Trojan Family. Steve’s tailgate parties before every USC home football game will remain legend for years to come. He welcomed those from near or far to join him for good cheer and good food. All of his family will miss him dearly.

Steve is survived by his parents, John and Thelma, his wife, Cheryl, his sons, Matthew and William, his brother and sister-in-law John and Darrelyn, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for July 26th at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena at 1p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Steven R. Orr Memorial Scholarship Fund at La Canada High School (In care of Sally Spangler, P.O. Box 97, La Canada, CA 91012) or to the scholarship fund of Town and Gown of USC.
