Community: Can Tree supports four charities

Members of the Glendale Assn. of Realtors have been collecting prizes all year for the annual Can Tree charity event to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the Brandview Ballroom, 109 E. Harvard St.
Some of the prizes are Lakers tickets, giant TV screens, vacations and laptop computers.
“I’m hoping a lot of people will come and enjoy our event and that businesses will help us more at the event, knowing we are giving 100% to local charities,” said chairwoman Hilda Laferla, who is assisted by co-chairwoman Lisa Jensen.
The committee has about 75 members, including founding committee members June Paugh, Joe Mandoky, Cathy Zappala. Also serving on the committee are Armen Avedian and Kathy Lefkovits.
Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Guests will enjoy a full catered meal and entertainment while having the chance to participate in a raffle as well as silent and live auctions of items donated by Realtors and area businesses. Last year’s chairman Greg Astorian is this year’s event grand sponsor with a donation of $5,000.
Every penny goes to four Glendale charities — Glendale Salvation Army, Ascencia, Glendale Police Department’s Youth STAR program and the Glendale Educational Foundation. Last year, the event raised $47,000, Avedian said.
