Glenn Darrell Taylor (95) passed away on January 8, 2015 after a short illness. He and his wife Vera celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in November, 2014. They were married in Burbank Foursquare (Media City) Church on Providencia Ave. in Burbank in 1939, and it is still their church home. They have been shining examples of love, kindness, faithful service, and warm hospitality and their home was always open to friends, family, and their church.

Glenn is the son of Arthur Thomas and Mary Magdalene (Sheets) Taylor. His 11 older brothers and sisters nicknamed him “Grinner.” All have predeceased Glenn. He was raised in North Hollywood, and served in the US Navy in WWII. Glenn and Vera moved to Burbank with their four children in 1958, and have lived in their home on University Ave. ever since. Over the years, their family continued to grow and gatherings in their home with just the immediate family now number 48!

Glenn was active in the community, serving the YMCA as a volunteer, board member, and board chair. He was honored to receive their Service to Youth Award, and last year he was recognized for service to the Y that spans 3 generations and more than half a century. Glenn was a charter member and had a leadership role in The Master’s Men, a weekly Burbank Bible study that originated the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. Glenn was also a long-standing member of Burbank Noon Rotary and a past-president, a position later held by his son and a grandson. He was involved in his church, leading youth, teaching classes, singing, and volunteering wherever and whenever needed. Only two places in the church were ever named in honor of a church member, and the first was “Frieda’s Kitchen” named for Glenn’s sister for the countless years she voluntarily oversaw its running. The second is “Taylor Hall” honoring Glenn and Vera for their years of service and dedication.

Glenn worked many jobs following his time in the Navy, from traveling salesman selling radio parts in Southern and Central California, to his least favorite and short-lived job – diaper service. He eventually settled in the insurance industry working for Mutual of New York (MONY) where he rose from sales, to top producer, to assistant manager, and eventually manager of the Los Angeles MONY agency. In 1970 he changed careers and became an independent insurance agent, opening Taylor Insurance in Burbank, where he worked until retiring.

Above all else, family was the most important part of Glenn’s life, where with his love, kindness, and generosity he was a living example of the forgiving love of his Heavenly Father. Glenn is survived by his loving wife Vera, his four grateful children, and 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren that miss and love their Grandad. The ANDERSONS: Marti (Taylor) and her husband Ralph, Kevin & Mark, Bill & Shelley, Dylan, Trent, & Jordyn. The HIGGINS: Christine (Taylor) and her husband Morgan, Jon & Linda, Randy, Erik, Chase, Jill & Gary, Noel, & Rory. The CAPPOCCHIS: Joan (Taylor) and her husband Ray, Aaron, Anna, Jared, Julia & David, Samuel, Brennan, & Luella, and The TAYLORS: Darrell Taylor and his wife Patricia, Jonathan & Jennie & Dale, Joel & Kim, Penny & Emmett, Brooke & Rogelio, Jacob, Andrew, & Marlee, McCauley and Hayley. Glenn is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews and their families, and countless friends.

Glenn Taylor was a wonderful Christian man, family man, businessman, gentleman, and friend to many, who lived his Christian faith in all he said and did, and was beloved by all who ever knew him.

Glenn was interred at Valhalla Memorial Park in a private family burial, and a memorial service to honor his life will be held at his church at on Sunday afternoon, January 25 at 2:30 p.m. Donations may be made in Glenn’s honor to Media City Church Youth Ministries, 269 E. Providencia Ave. Burbank, CA 91502.
