John D. Naumann<br/>September 27, 1932 - October 15, 2014

Born on September 27, 1932, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Karl Rudolph Naumann and Marie Keeran Naumann, John grew up in San Diego and then Glendale, California, with his two sisters, Joann and Jeanne. There he met his future wife, Nancy Jean Van Law.

After graduating from high school, John was drafted into the Army and served as a radio intercept operator in Hawaii during the Korean Conflict. He and Nancy were married on December 22, 1954. After he finished his military service, John and Nancy moved to Whittier, California, and John attended college at the University of Southern California. He graduated from there with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in industrial engineering. He taught engineering classes at USC as an adjunct professor for over twenty years. During that time, he worked as engineer in various industries mostly in the field of hospital planning and management, including a two-year assignment in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During these years, John and Nancy raised their three children, Joyce, Jeff, and Jerry, and the family enjoyed backpacking in the High Sierra Mountains of California. John and Nancy eventually welcomed seven grandchildren into the family.

In 1998, John and Nancy retired and moved to Arizona, where they enjoyed family, friends, and traveling.

John is survived by his wife Nancy Naumann, and his sister, Jeanne Naumann. He is also survived by his children, Joyce Naumann (Van Cott), Jeff Naumann, and Jerry Naumann, as well as his grandchildren, Laura Naumann, Courtney Van Cott, Chelsea Naumann, Amber Naumann, Hannah Naumann, Adelaide Naumann, and Anson Naumann. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Goldwater Institute or Hospice of the Valley.
