Eagle Scout hopeful in search of eyeglasses to donate to the visually impaired
As high school senior Michael Ganian completes his Eagle Scout project, he’s on the lookout for donations of used eyeglasses to recycle and send to developing countries where residents don’t have access to eye care or can’t afford it.
Michael, 17, lives in Glendale and is a member of Boy Scout Troop 86. A Scout leader tipped him off to the Lions Club’s “Lions in Sight” program, which helps the visually impaired abroad by collecting, cleaning, recycling and shipping used pairs of glasses to people in need.

When Michael, who attends Pasadena’s A.G.B.U. Vatche & Tamar Manoukian High School, heard about the program, he said he knew he wanted to collect as many pairs of eyeglasses as he could through his Eagle Scout project.
“It made an impact on me. It wasn’t like every other [project],” he said.
Michael has placed donation boxes at several local libraries and said he’s also willing to drive to local homes to personally pick up glasses.
Residents can drop off glasses in donation boxes in libraries through Saturday, or residents can call Michael at (818) 477-7647 and he will pick them up.
Drop-off locations include Glendale Central Library, 222 E. Harvard St.; Casa Verdugo Library, 1151 N. Brand Blvd.; Grandview Library, 1535 Fifth St.; Montrose Library, 2465 Honolulu Ave.; Pacific Park Library, 501 S. Pacific Ave.; and Brand Library & Art Center, 1601 W. Mountain St.
