Michiko Shiota Gingery<br/>February 8, 1924 - March 11, 2015

Michiko Shiota Gingery passed away at Keiro Retirement Home in Los Angeles, California on March 11, 2015 of natural causes. She was 91.

She was born in Osaka, Japan. She graduated from Shoin Girl’s High School in Osaka, received an RN degree from St. Luke’s College of Nursing in Tokyo, and was a Fulbright scholar at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. She met C. Arden Gingery in Japan after WWII. In 1952 she sailed to America and she and Mr. Gingery were married in 1954. They had three children and settled in the Glendale area in 1962.

Michiko’s greatest joy in life was in helping others. She was a devoted volunteer, an avid reader, a collector of fine art, textiles and antiques, and a lover of nature. She maintained an organic vegetable garden for 40 years, traveled to many countries and had numerous lifelong friends. She was a member of the Glendale/Higashi-Osaka Sister City Committee and was instrumental in the founding of the Shoseian Tea House in Brand Park in Glendale, where she was a resident for over 50 years.

Mrs. Gingery is survived by her daughters, Maya Gingery of Glendale, CA and Mari Ann Gingery and son-in-law Michael Lechlinski of Joshua Tree, California and two nephews, Shiota Yo and Shiota Ko of Osaka, Japan. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Arden Gingery, her son, Jon-Dirk Gingery and her brother Shiota Yoshiro.

A memorial for Mrs. Gingery will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Perfect Liberty, 1130 W 223rd St, Torrance, CA 90502 (310) 328-4861.
