Shirley L Serra<br/>August 19, 1922 - May 7, 2015

Shirley Serra, longtime Glendale resident, passed away on May 7. Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan, to English and Irish immigrants Marguerite Davie and Lorne Sauder. She moved to Los Angeles in 1944 and met her husband Juan Serra, a Spanish immigrant and decorated Spanish Civil War officer, in 1945. They were married in 1947 and moved to Glendale in 1960. They were the “Lucy and Desi” of their era!

Shirley will long be remembered and forever missed by family and friends for her feisty nature and her love of heated debate. She had many interests: Shirley was an avid reader and lover of music, dancing, museums, traveling, and animals. She also spent many happy and fulfilling years attending Lifelong Learning classes at Glendale Community College.

Shirley is predeceased by Juan (1904-1994) and is survived by her three daughters, Donna Serra of La Crescenta, Linda Serra and partner Terry DeGan of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Rita Serra of Chico. She is also survived by grandchildren Jason, Ian, Andrea, Lee, Sara, and Sharla; great grandchildren Alicia, Sophia, Kenlee, Frejia, Ava, and Victor; and beloved cousins--the Dhillons--Victor, Evelyn, David, Margie, their children and grandchildren; and many good friends.

A memorial service will be held mid-June at Glendale Community College. Contact the family at Lserra52@gmail.com or donnaserra@hotmail.com for details.
