Kids get summer enrichment at GCC
Children entering kindergarten through sixth grade can sign up for the Summer Enrichment Program at Glendale Community College, which again teams with Glendale Unified School District to offer the program. The classes are held at John C. Fremont Elementary School June 25 through July 20.
Tuition is $395. Residence in the district or attendance at a GUSD school is not required. After-school child care services are available until 6 p.m. at an additional cost.
This summer, the classes are Reading and Creative Writing, Adventures with Math, Weird and Wacky Science, Get Creative with PowerPoint, Mini-Masterpieces Art Workshop, Reading & Writing with Pop-Up Books, Sculpting with Clay, Cooking for Kids, Spanish, Game-A-Rama and Improv Acting. There will also be Introduction to Kindergarten and Introduction to First Grade.

Earn college credit in Bali this summer
The GCC Study Abroad program is offering transferable, college credit geography and anthropology courses in Bali this summer.
Students will be abroad June 21 thought July 15 following on-campus meetings June 11 through 19.
The college has offered programs in summer, winter and spring to Paris, Prague, Armenia, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Italy, Greece and Ireland and more.
In Bali, GCC professors will teach the courses while students also learn about the food, culture, religion and people of the island. Excursions to ancient ruins and temples, watching Balinese dances, feeding monkeys in Monkey Forest, sailing and snorkeling will be part of the experience. An additional trip to Borneo to see the wild orangutans is offered for an additional cost.
Interested participants must enroll in both the geography and anthropology courses. The cost is $3,750 and includes airfare, accommodations, excursion trips and many of the meals.
Study-abroad programs at the college follow the guidelines developed by the Council on International Educational Exchange for the U.S. Department of State, which focus on expansion of student opportunities for study and work abroad, as well as the guidelines of the California Colleges for International Education, a consortium of California community colleges.

Local residents on stage in ‘Godspell’
GCC’s Theatre Arts and Music Departments will stage the musical “Godspell,” opening April 19 in the Auditorium Mainstage Theatre.
Local residents starring in the production include Claire Benoist, Lynette Hacopian, Manouel Ohaneysan, Blue Josiah Perez, Argishti Stepanian and Guilherme Zaiden of Glendale; La Crescenta residents Laura Malkson and Christopher Standley; and Dominic Matas of Burbank.
Joenhel Cayanan of Los Angeles plays Jesus. Other cast members include Joshua Archer, Lucca J. Camillieri, Shandar Robinson, Sara Miel Saavedra, Sarah Akele Stone and Peter Von Sholly,
The “Godspell” book is written by John-Michael Tebelak, music and lyrics are by Stephen Schwartz, based on The Gospel According to St. Matthew. The Broadway favorite features a score by Stephen Schwartz and several popular songs, including “Day by Day,” “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side.”
Performances are April 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at 8 p.m., and April 22 and 29 at 2 p.m. Melissa R. Randel is the director, with musical direction by Clare Delto.
Tickets are $18 general admission, $13 students/seniors, and $10 for groups. A $2-per-ticket convenience fee is added to all ticket purchases. Tickets may be purchased online at www.glendalearts.org or at the GCC Box Office, Alex Theater Box Office or the Americana at Brand concierge desk.
