Julie Burroughs Shermer One of Glendale’s finest ambassadors, Julie Burroughs Shermer, passed away June 21, 2012. Born in Glendale to James and Genevieve Sultenfuss, Julie attended Glendale schools including Hoover High School and subsequently served as reunion chairperson for four decades. Married to Howard Shermer for nearly 30 years, Julie enjoyed travel, flora, fauna, and family - especially their four grandchildren. She was an avid and prizewinning photographer. Julie’s vast knowledge and love of Glendale made her an invaluable asset to the Glendale Chamber of Commerce for nearly 20 years. Most recently she was owner/operator of the Glendale Connection and was employed as Fund Development Coordinator for Glendale Clean & Beautiful, Inc. in conjunction with Neighborhood Services. Julie served as an officer or board member of numerous Glendale civic organizations including Soroptimist International of Glendale, Glendale Chamber of Commerce, Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, Verdugo Mental Health Board, the Days of Verdugo Association and many others. She lent her incredible love of Glendale to dozens of groups all focused on improving the quality of life in Glendale and the success of local businesses. Above all Julie loved her family and filled their lives with her ability to find beauty in every thing and every person. She is survived by her mother Genevieve Sultenfuss; husband Howard Shermer; children Christopher Burroughs, Kathy Burroughs, James (Brenda) Burroughs, and Kimberly Meyer; four grandchildren Alyson, Kristen, Dalton, and Connor; and sister Audrey Carr. Julie touched the lives of all who were blessed to know her with her bright, uplifting love of life and encouraging nature. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community. A Celebration of Life is scheduled at Salem Lutheran Church located at 1211 N. Brand in Glendale on Friday, July 13 at 2:00. Bright colors and Hawaiian resort wear is welcomed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to GAMC Healthcare Foundation Dr. Norick Bogossian Cancer Care Guild in Glendale.
