Concepcion G Garcia, better known as “Concha” and “Connie” amongst her relatives and friends, passed away September 30, 2012 at the age 87 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marcos, son Ronald, both of Burbank, and son William of FL. An infant daughter, Linda Ann, her parents, Apolonia T. Ontiveros and Nicolas Gonzalez, and a grandmother she loved dearly, Apolonia Tellez, had preceded her in death.
Mrs. Garcia was a loving wife and mother, and friends described her as being “a classy lady.” She was proud to be an American and proud to have lived in Burbank her entire life where she was born in 1924. Known as “Conchita” as a young girl, she spoke fondly of the time when one of her elementary school teachers, Mrs. Johnson, was nice enough to take her to buy a pair of new shoes during the Great Depression. Other fond memories are part of an upcoming book written by son Ronald, a memoir about his own upbringing in Burbank during the 1960’s and early 1970’s.
Mrs. Garcia is also survived by four half sisters who also grew up in Burbank: Mrs. Amelia Armendariz, Mrs. Julieta Carbajal, Mrs. Eleanor Lara and Mrs. Jessie Pintor. She is also survived by a half brother, Nicolas Gonzalez Jr., a half sister Betty, and one other half sister, all from Mexico.
She will be greatly missed.
