Bessie Ellen Broyles Oct. 27, 1913- Oct. 21, 2012

Bessie Ellen Broyles, a weekly community volunteer at Verdugo Hills Hospital, has died. She was 98.

Born on Oct. 27, 1913, in Lipscomb County, Texas, Broyles died Oct. 21 — six days before her 99th birthday. She had lived in Los Angeles County for 79 years and was a resident of Palmdale at the time of her death. Broyles was active in her community, volunteering every week at Verdugo Hills Hospital until the age of 86.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Cole, of Glendale; her son, Douglas Broyles of Boulder, Colo.; and her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Memorial Park Glendale. Services will be held at noon Tuesday at the Little Chapel of Roses.
