Gayle E. Lujan July 17, 1956 - November 30, 2012

Santa Rosa, CA - Gayle E. Lujan, age 56, passed away at her home in Santa Rosa, in the loving care of her husband and daughter, on Friday, November 30, 2012. She was born in Glendale on July 17, 1956, a daughter of Walter and Laura (Pollard) Winner. On November 14, 1981, she was united in marriage to Dan Lujan. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Laura Luhan of Santa Rosa, and Keith Luhan, currently serving as a Marine in Afghanistan; a sister, Barbara (Jim) Kaufmann;and a nephew, Jeff Winner. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Glenn Winner.

Gayle worked as a labor & delivery nurse for 28 years, most recently at Sutter, Santa Rosa. Gayle was extremely active in the home schooling community, having home schooled her own two children. She was involved in several 4-H projects, including horses, swine and goats. An accomplished cook, Gayle supported local agriculture and viticulture. She was an avid hiker and runner and ran several half marathons in her 50’s. Gayle looked forward to her yearly mother – daughter trips, and enjoyed camping and kayaking. During her college years, Gayle was an
airplane pilot and flew across the country with her college club. Her fondness for flying influenced her son to pursue a career in aviation.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa with the Rev. Mike Hayes officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 pm until the time of service. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale will take place at a later date. Special thanks to Sutter Hospice, and the 4th floor nurses at Sutter, Santa Rosa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gayle’s name to the USO.
