Solveig Albertson Dahl August 10, 1927 - December 20, 2012

After a brief bout with cancer, Solveig Albertson Dahl passed away December 20, 2012 in her San Luis Obispo home, surrounded by her five loving children. Born August 10, 1927 in Fargo,
North Dakota, she was a longtime resident of Glendale, where she attended both Toll Junior High and Hoover High School. She went on to St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota, where she earned a B.A. in English. She taught in the Burbank School District and was an active member of Grandview Presbyterian Church in Glendale for nearly forty years.

An avid reader, naturalist, documentarian, photographer, painter, Scrabble player, teacher, music lover, bird watcher and traveler, Solveig visited most of the national parks of the West and much of Europe. At the age of eighty, she traveled to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. Deeply devoted to her large family, she imparted a love of art and the natural world to her children and

Solveig is survived by her daughters Paula Huston (Mike) of Arroyo Grande, California; Gail Westberg (Dennis) of San Luis Obispo, California; Gretchen Steer (John) of Rochester, Minnesota; Christina Dahl (Richard Stout) of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and son Ronald Dahl
(Karin Yamasaki) of Monrovia, California. Solveig’s remaining siblings include Hedvig Niemeyer, Muriel Bates, Arne Albertson, and Pauline Fagre, as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle G. Dahl, and a granddaughter, Kirstie Steer.

Solveig will be buried in a private ceremony at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. During the spring, a memorial service, including a piano concert by her daughter Christina Dahl, will be held in Glendale.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Coast Hospice in San Luis Obispo or Lighthouse for the Blind, one of the many charities to which Solveig contributed. Condolence cards for the family may be sent to Los Osos Valley Mortuary, P.O. Box 6190, Los
