Ruth Emily Wells, a resident of Westchester, passed away January 4th at the age of 96+ years. She suffered a stroke in 1994 but with care was able to reside in her residence until she was hospitalized for pneumonia in December, 2012.

She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana the oldest of 12 children to John Franklin and Beatrice Lillian Renfro. She attended school in Louisville and married James Wells in 1937, who passed away in 1975.

Her family moved to Los Angeles in 1952. She was a wonderful cook and loved baking, which she loved to share.

She was involved in the community volunteering at Venice Boys and Girls Club and the Salvation Army, was an active member of her church as her faith was a very important part of her life. She loved receiving cards and letters and reread them often.

She loved the color pink, her family, flowers, visiting with friends and supporting her daughters who survive her. They are Pat (Dr. Stan) Kandel and Bonnie Busk; brother, Hal (Sheena) Renfro; sister, Doris Littrell; grandchildren, Randy Busk, Lorie Busk, Jennifer Wells, and Dennis Wells; Henry, a great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. Each Sunday morning there was a Tea Party at her house where friends would come and have tea/coffee, pastries and fresh fruit and catch up on family news. This continued even following her stroke when she couldn’t partake of the food but loved the company. She enjoyed birthdays and her last in 2012 was a big celebration with 60 people in attendance.
