Cabrini Literary Guild celebrates 70th anniversary at Oakmont Country Club

Share

The Cabrini Literary Guild will mark its 70th anniversary beginning at 11 a.m. March 2 at the Oakmont Country Club. In keeping with the celebration year, the cost to attend is $70.

There will be an elite basket raffle as well as a cash raffle. Musical entertainment is also included. For reservations, contact Jan at (818) 244-9815.

The guild was founded by 20 women in 1943 to share their interest in good books and current Catholic activities. The membership numbers have expanded over the years but their original purpose — to financially assist Catholic literature, thought and action — has never changed.

The guild, now boasting 100 members, contributes thousands of dollars each year to Archdiocesan Catholic high school students who win the annual writing awards contest.

Proceeds from the annual fundraiser support local charities, such as the Glendale Public Library, Loaves and Fishes, St. Vincent de Paul, the YWCA Domestic Violence Center, Ascencia services for homeless and many others.

The Cabrini Guild meets the second Thursday of each month at the Oakmont Country Club from October to June. A Membership Tea takes place in September and a Day of Recollection in January. Interest groups include Better Living/BusyFingers, a Book Club, Bridge, Mannequins and Philosophy.
